Date:  February 28, 2003

The Dallas County Health and Human Services Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Division is recruiting volunteers for both medical and non-medical positions.  We are working to identify persons willing to work in smallpox vaccination or antibiotic dispensary clinics if the need arises.  If you would be willing to help with this endeavor, please contact the person listed below for more information and an application form.

Medical Volunteers:

Duties would include screening for contraindications to medications or vaccine, dispensing medication, and/or giving smallpox vaccinations.  Training will be provided.  Multiple locations would be utilized so you would have the opportunity to be assigned to a location near your home.  Clinics would be operating on a 24 hour/day schedule for multiple days or as the need dictates.  Volunteers would be expected to work multiple days or until the task is completed.  In the event of an emergency, volunteers and their households would receive the vaccination/medication before it is given to the general public.

Non-Medical Volunteer:

Potential positions would include clerical, crowd control, childcare, translation and runner.  Multiple locations would be utilized so you would have the opportunity to be assigned to a location near your home.  Clinics would be operating on a 24 hour day schedule for multiple days or as the need dictates.  Volunteers would be expected to work multiple days or until the task is completed. If this type of an emergency does occur, you and your household would receive the vaccination or medication before it is given to the general public.  Child care, if needed, would be provided.
